Odin the Traveller

This time Franz Stassen depicts Odin disguised as a traveller, as he is sometimes called in the opera. However, he is recognizable by several of his attributes: the spear, Gungnir, in his hand; an eye that seems to be missing; and the two ravens accompanying him, Huginn [thought] and Muninn [memory], who travel the world and bring Odin information about events. It is possible that the horse, even though here it does not have eight legs, represents Odin's steed, Sleipnir.
