An astonishing medieval dragon, with a tail decorated with a dog's head. Illuminations would often testify, as in this creature, to a prolific imagination.
Fantasy writers have drawn on little-known folklore to feed their bestiary. In Europe, there is the Catalan wyvern, the Provençal tarasque, as well as the basilisk, the cockatrics and others. This allows either a reinvention of the aesthetics of the dragon, or populating the fictitious universe with diverse species, all of them captivating to the reader.
