Ridley Scott's fourth film, this American-British co-production borrows as much from storytelling as it does from the magical in a tale in which a princess encounters elves, fairies, unicorns and demons. Shot at Pinewood Studios, Legend is inspired by the tales of the Brothers Grimm and Jean Cocteau's film Beauty and the Beast. The director called upon a young make-up genius, Rob Bottin, to create the monster, Darkness. Japanese video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto acknowledged the influence of this work on his game The Legend of Zelda, released in 1987, confirming the constant exchanges between fantasy imaginations in different media.
