How to visit Versailles's grounds
Significantly, one of the only “private” texts written by the king was Manière de Montrer les Jardins de Versailles, a very directive visitor’s guide to the grounds of Versailles :
“Leaving the castle through the marble courtyard, go on to the terrace; stop at the top of the steps to admire the disposition of the ponds and fountains. Then go right....Then turn left.... Next turn right....”
(Manuscript 1702-1704 )
