Caran d'Ache was the pseudonym of Emmanuel Poiré (1858-1909), a Russian who became a naturalized French citizen. As a well-known Parisian cartoonist and caricaturist, he contributed to newspapers like Le Chat noir, Le Tout-Paris and La Caricature, among others.
