Murger owed his spot in the Pantheon to his media fame. First for the success of his play La Vie de Bohème (Bohemian Life,) 1849) which would be staged repeatedly throughout the century, then his novel Scènes de la vie de Bohême (Scenes from Bohemian Life, 1851) published by Michel Lévy, and reprinted constantly. A popular columnist in great demand by small newspapers, he wrote for the prestigious Revue des Deux-Mondes. Murger had been close to Nadar since their shared bohemian youth, Félix having helped him greatly and introduced him to many influential people.
