The Pereire family had a long history of being friendly to and supportive of the Nadars, from the 1850s all the way to 1950, when Alfred Pereire, then president of the Society of Friends of the BnF, assited the institution in acquiring the Nadar collection. The Pereires' financial support saved the imprudent or overly bold photographers from disaster more than once.
