Bartolomeo Diaz's accomplishment was rapidly followed by further achievements from Portuguese navigators, who drew the coasts of Africa and India, inventoried the names of existing ports and harbours and named uncharted areas. A more accurate map of the Indian Ocean was thus gradually drawn up during the 16^th and 17^th centuries.
