Those who read these atlases and nautical maps –scholars, princes, cartographers– could thus envisage the diversity of the world according to European clichés.
A few spectacular copies remain today, mainly maps that were made for princes who wanted to understand European expansion, or for benefactors driven by scientific curiosity and aesthetic pleasure.
