As trans-Atlantic navigation developed, production moved to the western edge of the Iberian peninsula, centring on Seville and Lisbon. Likewise, the increasing power of the seafaring nations of Northern Europe during the 16^th century shifted production towards ports in Normandy, Brittany, the Netherlands and England.
